R. Strauss - Sonata in F Major, Op. 6 Originally composed for the violoncello and was mentioned as part of Serge Koussevitzky’s repertoire, in his biography. (see Michael Klinghoffer’s article https://www.michaelklinghoffer.com/single-post/2016/1/31/Richard-Strauss-Sonata-Op6-for-Violoncello-and-Piano) . Although some hand written transcriptions have been found and investigated, this edition is trying to be as faithful to the original as possible. This is an early Strauss work, very much in the harmonic style of Brahms. The work is full of singing melodies and is accompanied by rich harmonies. This Sonata lends itself rather comfortably to the double bass. It is a recommended piece for advanced high school students, very suitable for college students and could be a great addition to any professional recital.
This sonata was recorded on Michael Klinghoffer’s CD- Mostly Transcriptions Vol. 2 (Shikiori, Japan).
